Meet Dr. Alsky
Effective psychiatric care exists on A Continuum
I am a board-certified psychiatrist and psychodynamic psychotherapist accepting patients residing in Arizona who are interested in an integrative approach to mental health that focuses on root causes and aims for lasting change. I believe that intention is the foundational principle underlying the discipline of healing. My interest in healing-adjacent fields, such as philosophy, literature, meditation, and spirituality greatly inform my practice of psychiatry, which I see as stemming from these more fundamentally humanistic practices. It is my aim to integrate these approaches in a way that meets each person where they are at. Most importantly, I view my role as enabling a dialogue, setting patients’ care in the right direction, and creating a framework that enables lasting change rather than indefinite medication management that, at best, promotes externalized dependence, and, at worst, can blunt or extend one’s mental and emotional suffering.
As an osteopathic physician, my training has involved intentional pursuit of holistic and integrative approaches to medicine since early in medical school. This expertise has been further honed through my training in psychiatry residency at the University of Arizona, involving a formal certification from the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, as well as my current work as a psychiatrist at the nationally recognized integrative and trauma-focused residential treatment center, Sierra Tucson.
In addition to general adult psychiatry, I have specialized experience addressing mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma disorders, and personality disorders. I have formal training as a session-monitor in a national psychedelic-assisted therapy study and have worked in ketamine integration therapy, further applying these skills within a currently FDA approved treatment modality. Furthermore, I am a current fellow at the Columbia University Psychoanalytic Institute, where I continue to hone my skills alongside expert researchers and teachers in the fields of psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
My perspective on psychiatry is nuanced and, at times, counter to modern conventions that are not solidly based in evidence, but instead, policies and beliefs shaped by insurance and pharmaceutical industry profits. I find that working outside of insurance constraints enables focus on the core issues causing suffering. Please feel free to explore the website and to reach out for further information; I look forward to speaking further!
